【简短的英文小故事】One rainy afternoon, a young boy named Tom sat by the window, watching the rain fall in steady drops. He had nothing to do, and the world outside seemed quiet and still. His mother had gone out for groceries, and his little sister was napping.
As he stared out the window, he noticed something unusual. A small bird, soaked and shivering, was struggling to fly. It had landed on the windowsill, looking lost and afraid.
Tom opened the window just a little, careful not to let the wind blow too hard. The bird looked up at him, as if it understood. Without thinking, he reached out and gently picked it up with both hands. It was warm, and its wings fluttered slightly in his grip.
He brought the bird inside, placed it on a soft towel, and gave it some water from a bowl. The bird drank slowly, then looked around the room with wide eyes. Tom smiled. He had never seen a bird so close before.
After a while, the bird seemed to recover. It flapped its wings, and Tom knew it was time to let it go. He opened the window again and held the bird in his hands. "Go on," he whispered.
The bird looked at him one last time, then flew into the sky, disappearing into the gray clouds. Tom watched it go, feeling a strange sense of peace.
That day, he learned that even the smallest act of kindness could make a big difference. And though the rain had stopped, the warmth of the moment stayed with him long after.
